The flatcar is made from
basswood. The tank is an Athearn 40' chemical tank without the
platform. Scratchbuilt placards, staple stirrups, GL detail parts,
and Walthers archbar trucks were added. An identical car lettered #11 was
built also.
One of my first attempts at a
tank-on-flat. Basswood flatcar/HO tank.
CDS dry transfers.
An Athearn
HO chemical tank with added
walkways and ends. The platform had full railings but after the
car was destroyed twice, I didn't replace them. Walthers brass ladder
is used and has
the sides bent 90 degrees in order to look narrower.
My son gave me the HO tank so I used an
MDC HO freight car frame and built a flat. I attempted to simulate
the
riveting on the corner braces by drilling holes into the styrene instead
of adding raised rivets. The straps are pinned to the mounting
blocks with straight pins.
