Work Car Wonders - 20 Years Later

When I read the article "Work Car Wonders" (Railroad Modeler October 1975) for the first time I was captivated by the cars and the scratchbuilding process used, even though I did not have the skills or experience to build the cars. But for the past 20 years I kept a copy of the article with the hopes of someday building them.

The Bachmann On30" flatcars seemed the perfect choice. I modified the underframes in order to shorten the wheelbases. The derrick is built from half a flatcar and half a caboose.
